When I heard that my small group was doing Boundaries, I was excited since I had read the book and liked it. Unfortunately, the DVD doesn't measure up. It basically gives little skits to start off the discussions, but the skits don't seem to have much to do with the content of the book or even the discussion questions in the Participant Guide. Moreover, the acting is pretty bad, and the "plots" are slow and predictable. In fact, half way through, we stopped playing the video because so many people stopped coming! I'd suggest skipping this one.

He makes some excellent points and this definitely influenced how I think about things. However, I disagree with him strongly in one point and I feel that he skirted one important issue. Near the end of the book he gives an example where a child refuses to go to school and the mother realizes she "can't make the child go to school" but sets the boundary that the child will have to stay in his room if he doesn't go to school. The problem with that logic is, if you can't "make a child go to school" how can you "make a child stay in his room"? We can't make a child enjoy school or even pay attention to the teachers, these things take incentives and consequences, but parents do still need to hold onto the reigns on certain issues. It is a delicate line, but I can and do "make" my children go to school.The other issue is one of an abusive marriage. He talks about putting up boundaries and leaving for the night if these boundaries are violated. This is always done for a short period of time and then the abused spouse returns home. There are situations where this is effective. But in a true abusive situation (physical or mental) it is playing with fire to leave and return over and over. The physical abuser can be deadly. A mental abuser will learn how to better manipulate her victim without his realizing that his boundaries have been violated and thereby twisting reality even further. Any abusive person is not to be trifled with, and without genuine repentance and clear signs of change one is foolish to continue to expose themselves to that risk regardless of history, children, or feelings. For all of his insight, I am shocked that this is not made more clear.

Getting through even one chapter of this book requires complete agreement with and acceptance of Christianity. It does not merely inform the work, it doesn't make sense without it. This book is so God preachy that unless you are extremely religious you are unlikely to find any of this compelling. Very disappointed.

[Note: although I'm not religious, I still found a ton of value out of this book]Cloud and Townsend do a great job of using boundaries to illustrate why we grew up certain ways. For example, you probably know someone who has a money problem. He spends recklessly and doesn't really think about the consequences of his actions. This can be traced back to his parents never establishing their own boundaries. They would always bail the son out whenever he ran out of money and tell him to be better next time. They never let him "feel" the consequences. And so he never learned.There's so many other brilliant examples of the importance of boundaries and how they affect the people around us.I learned a lot about myself through the sections that detail boundaries with friends, family, and work. The one that impacted me the most was the section on Boundaries with Myself. I grew up with parents who while loving, also created situations for me where I was not able to feel the consequences, and so I behave in certain ways that I'm trying to fix.When I was first referred to this book, I wasn't told this book had a heavy religious undertone (the conflict of setting boundaries and being a good person in the eye of God). I'm not religious, so the biblical references didn't really matter to me much, but that doesn't mean I can't learn from them. The concepts themselves made sense to me and I would recommend this book to anyone who believes they have boundary problems.

This book was recommended to me by a counselor at my church. Initially I had a hard time getting into it but I stuck with it and I am so glad that I did! It provides incredible insight into why we behave the way we do, where those habits come from and how to get out of them if need be. I have tried to start applying the principles to my life and I have to say that the description of how people react to the initial phase of boundary setting has proven to be very accurate. (Hint: If you've always been a people pleaser, they are going to have a difficult time with the new you until they get adjusted.) I feel like this is helping me realize that it is ok to say no to certain requests or to certain people who suck the life out of you. I feel more capable of coping with the challenging people in my life now. I was not a doormat before by any means but I have always had the tendency to give until I had little left for my self or my own family. NO MORE!

This book should be called "How to accept who you are, be confident about telling people no, and have confidence in making decisions". This is an excellent book for those looking to understand the reasons behind deep emotional road blocks. I have read this book twice because it opened so many doors in my mind and lead me towards answers I had been seeking. If you're not religious it may sound a little to holy at first but by the end of the book you'll have a much better understanding of god and his teachings. I never saw myself going to church or reading the bible but after reading this book it helped me accept responsibility for my problems and understand how god and his teachings exist for that very reason. Each individual is responsible for the quality of his or her own life. It teaches that by accepting things which may have happened to you aren't necessarily your fault but are still your responsibility to deal with, get over, and forgive in order to move on a be a whole person is a fundamental part of life. This one of a few books which may really change your life if you're struggling with being happy and being okay with who you are.

I bought this book as a gift for my son who loves to do science experiments. The last 2 school years (5th&6th grade) the have to do a science experiment in front of an audience at school and my son was easily able to find experiments that he loved. This was a great product with lots of fun ideas for science experiments for kids. I would absolutely recommend this book for anyone with kids that love to do experiments.

I was hoping this would have more activities in it my daughter could do on her own (10 years old) but most require adult help. some items are not items you have laying around the house so i don't like that you have to purchase something for a 5 minute experiment. My daughter wants to do the activities so it gets her excited about science and learning so that's a win.

This book is full of color pages with many many many different experiments witb iyems ariund the house. I got this gor my son who is 11 and he loved it. Its not a cheap o book. Pages are durable and we just love it.

It is amazing what us men don't know or understand about sex.

Purchased this book at the suggestion of my doctor. The method is nothing new but effective. Used the method many years ago, but a bit different than in this book. I believe that this book is more realistic in its expectations of the treatment than another book I had read many years ago on the same subject, and offers good advice for the person having this very embarrassing and troublesome affliction. It empathizes with the feelings and thoughts of both partners which helps with discussions about the process. I would recommend that the primary user read it first, then offer it to his significant other. Very good and well worth the read.

I also like the book Coping With Premature Ejaculation which highlights some of the newer information about premature ejaculation including medications and research about why men develop PE in the first place but this book by Dr. Kaplan continues to hold a lot of promise for many single men and couples. It is well written and has important information.I also think She Comes First by Ian Kerner has information on good techniques that at least one man with PE learned in order to please his partner while he worked out his own PE issues (those techniques are cunnilingus techniques).Highly recommended.

Grade 8 Up-In the first section, Ross gives the background of the Russian revolutions, the abdication of the tsar, the failure of the provisional government, and the taking and establishment of power by the Bolsheviks through 1924. In the second part, he looks at the legacy of the Bolshevik revolution in the Soviet Union from Stalinism through perestroika, followed by a short section that explores communism in other areas of the world and its demise. Most of the chapters are divided into a narrative history followed by a couple of pages of analysis. The difference between the two is not always clear in the early chapters but in the last two sections Ross often devotes his analysis to speculate about the course of history and present different interpretations of key events. This is a laudable but overly ambitious approach. The author has to assume that readers already have a solid background in history, and those without one will be overwhelmed. An additional difficulty is that the text is superimposed on faint background photographs of mass demonstrations that put a strain on readers' focus, especially on the many purple pages. Each chapter has quotes in italics, but they are not footnoted. On the positive side, a wealth of information is provided by black-and-white historical photos and color reproductions of posters and paintings. While this book does have its strengths, Ted Gottfried's first two volumes in "The Rise and Fall of the Soviet Union" series (21st Century) present a more comprehensive and clearer narrative.

This book is fantastic, you can understand the cocos2d from basics to start building interesting games for iOS, Mac OS X and Android. This is a great choice if you already know how to program in Objective-C andiOS development, but if you know how to program in Object Oriented paradigm or if you want to start a game development journey this is a great book, that covers one of my favorite frameworks and I would recommend this as the best tool to work in great quality games for mobile, it is simple, lightweight and powerful.The author has covered the most useful features to start making games, like sprites, backgrounds, menus, scenes, level creations and management. All the book is very well structured and show how to do the things the right way, he doesn't simply show how to do, but he shows why to do also, what create much more possibilities, because this way you can understand the framework powers and how you can extend this powers to create your own features. Mobile game development has normally input by touch, one of my favorite chapters show a great variety of touch input for games and for me this is one of the most import things in games, the way that the users will interact with your game. This book also show how to use physics this is also important in games for mobile, there are many great games that you can start with physics, and you can mix physics with accelerometer, that expand your capabilities to start great games. But the author has also showed more game topics that are more generic, I want to say that are independent from this framework, but are very important in game development and you will need to know how to do, topics like AI and A* pathfinding. I am very happy with this book because this is a great hand tool box of cocos2d, before read this book I already have worked with Cocos2d-x and Cocos2d-js, I think that I known how to do the things but I was wrong, I failed when I started to test this framework before to use things like XML and 2d lights, that could be simple to you, but to was very traumatic and this book showed me the right way to create a full featured game using the advantages of this version of the cocos2d framework for Apple and Android devices, this framework has very interesting tools to use with like sprite helper, levelhelper and other tools that allows you to develop fast and are very popular in game developer teams. He also shows great optional tools to use like physics editor, particle designer for example, and how to implement Swift syntax in Cocos2d and SpriteBuilder basics to create games and port your projects to Android.

Apart for being concentrated entirely on Mac(iOS), this book is great. 4 Stars just because of that. Otherwise the book is good, well written and easy to understand. Only thing i would like to suggest would be having basic knowledge of Objective-C is plus.Cross platforming thing is shared in the end chapters but will only help(much easily) the people who know the basics of Cocos2D, otherwise it is going to a bit on the harder edge for the beginners.

This is an amazing book for game developer enthusiasts. It's well presented content makes the topics easy to understand and follow. I am a teacher and would recommend it to every student who is serious about gaming.
