Almost a step by step walk through guide which will teach you how to go much further than you may ever have before in penetration testing, etc >;). One of the better guides for absolute beginners with a rudimentary understanding of the Linux OS. Sorry but Linux forums (specifically Backtrack) can be treacherous with many arrogant and ignorant admins suffering from the "God" complex, go on one for yourself and you'll see.This book helps you to get the imperative points you need to be able to operate Backtrack (and even Kali to a point) without having to put up with the beatdown you'll often get on the forums.Very well explained and detailed just enough so that you shouldn't have any problems figuring most things out for yourself. Insight and tips included to make the experience more rewarding also. Definitely one of the better Linux books I've read in the last few years and worth the small investment.

This book covers pretty much everything you would need to know in order to perform a professional wifi pentest. Wireless hacking is pretty easy to do relative to a number of other things you would do in the world of offensive security mainly due to the fact that you need not have any programming experience to pull it off.Much of it is simply a matter of memorizing the proper terminal commands and knowing when to use them, and this book covers this perfectly. Some of the things included in this book are:-How to install BackTrack 5 and set up a hack lab-General information on WLAN frames and the 802.11 protocol system-Some basic use of Wireshark to collect information on the network or area you are in (you'll know why https is important)-Cracking WEP, WPA, WPA2, and even getting past things like MAC filtering-Denial of service attacks (a complete jackass could really abuse this information if they are in a coffee shop)And so on. I won't go into too much detail except to say that this book can be used by anyone with no prior BackTrack experience so long as they are willing to set some time aside to try the things in this book. It truly gets right to the point about how to perform an attack first (so impatience is less of a problem) and then explaining why you ended up with the result that you got (if the attack was done correctly).For anyone interested in BackTrack, Wifi cracking, or hacking in general, this book is a must have!

well writen. If any one can not follow this book, then you cannot follow directions. I bought the hardware as directed, but added my own twist to make this book work for me and my intentions. I also like the the fact that it makes you work for that extra info. The info is out there, if I wanted to know more then I researched it. if anyone says they have read this book and it did not work for them then they cannot follow directions, or they want it (knowledge) handed To them. I am well versed in theory, I like to get my hands dirty and get to work. Time for some action. Wish more books were written like this. Good work.

I've read this book at least 3 times! If you're new to Backtrack 5 and the Aircrack suite of tools then you must read this book. It's great for beginners and intermediates. I would recommend some basic Linux skills, but it's really not required. Vivek explains the commands in a concise way. You'll learn how to crack WEP and WPA/WPA2. Learn how to use airmon, aircrack, aireplay, airodump, airolib, airdecap, genpmk, cowpatty, pyrit, and more. He also explains how to create various wifi filters in Wireshark and gives just enough background to understand the all of the commands. You'll also create rogue access points with airbase and how to a bridge interfaces with brctl. Vivek is the inventor of the Caffe Latte attack, which is used to attack WEP using just the client as the target. The end of every chapter has a pop-quiz to test what you've learned, and at the end of the book he brings it all together with a WLAN pen-testing methodology including planning, discovering, attacking, and reporting. The appendix includes many resources to help you build an advanced wifi lab.In summary: A very hands-on book that guides you -- step-by-step, start to finish -- in executing a successful wireless penetration test. It also has very high re-use value.I would highly recommend getting an Alfa wireless adapter along with this book. I bought the Alfa model AWUS036H here on Amazon for about $35USD.

This is the book that first introduced me to network security. Actually all I wanted to do was learn how to hack my router, and I learned that and so much more. This single book has made me decide to pursue a career in information security. The book itself is written elegantly in very easily understandable terms. It assumes no prior knowledge to the topics included and it is very beginner friendly (as the title suggests.) The author is absolutely brilliant and it is worth noting that this author is the "security tube wifi security expert" course instructor (which I just enrolled in not long ago.) I think I've read this book twice from cover to cover, and probably 10 times over using it for reference. You start the book with no assumed knowledge of linux, backtrack, or wireless pentesting at all, and end the book with the knowledge to conduct a full penetration test on a wireless network from beginning to end. Highly recommend to anyone who wants to learn more about wireless network security. If there was a 10 start option i would have selected that.

James, she placed the history of Spanish Jamaica (and therefore the Caribbean) in the context of the founding of the post-1492 European settler colonies in the New World, which remained an indispensable element in the first stage of the institutionalization of the Western world system. Therefore, a central imperative of her initial work has always been to reconceptualize the history of the region, and therefore of the modern world, but doing so, from a world-systemic perspective; that is, no longer from the normative perspective of the settler archipelago, but rather more inclusively, from those of the neo-serf (i.e. Indian) and that of ex-slave (i.e. Negro) archipelagos; this latter, as what she defines, adapting Enrique Dussel’s terms, as the "gaze from below" perspective of "the ultimate underside of modernity."

Strongly influenced by Marx together with Black thinkers such as Aimé Césaire, Jean Price-Mars (seen in the Jonkunnu essay), W. E. B. Du Bois and Frantz Fanon, and with an appreciation of the insights brought by the New Studies of the Sixties (including that of Black redemptive co-humanist thought, feminism), Wynter’s work has sought, from its origin, to find a comprehensive explanatory system able to integrate these knowledges, ones born of struggle.

The Event of the anti-colonial struggle which began in the case of a then British Jamaica in the late 1930s, cut across the childhood and early adolescence of Sylvia Wynter, providing the raison d'être of the first phase of her important body of work seen in this collection. The imperative of decolonizing the order of discourse that had legitimated the then imperial order (that is, to the colonizer as well to the colonized), gave rise to a theoretically sustained argument manifest here in a set of seminal critical and historical essays. At the time of their writing, Wynter was a practising novelist, an innovative playwright, a scholar of Spanish Caribbean history, and an incisive literary critic with a gift for the liveliest kind of polemics. This intellectual virtuosity is evident in these wide-ranging essays that include an exploration of C.L.R. James's writings on cricket, Bob Marley and the counter-cosmogony of the Rastafari, and the Spanish epoch of Jamaican history (including a pioneering examination of Bernado de Balbuena, epic poet and Abbot of Jamaica 1562-1627).

Across this varied range of topics, a coherent and consistent thread of argument emerges from Wynter's aeuvre. In the vein of C. L. R. James, she placed the history of Spanish Jamaica (and therefore the Caribbean) in the context of the founding of the post-1492 European settler colonies in the New World, which remained an indispensable element in the first stage of the institutionalization of the Western world system. Therefore, a central imperative of her initial work has always been to reconceptualize the history of the region, and therefore of the modern world, but doing so, from a world-systemic perspective; that is, no longer from the normative perspective of the settler archipelago, but rather more inclusively, from those of the neo-serf (i.e. Indian) and that of ex-slave (i.e. Negro) archipelagos; this latter, as what she defines, adapting Enrique Dussel's terms, as the "gaze from below" perspective of "the ultimate underside of modernity."

Strongly influenced by Marx together with Black thinkers such as Aimé Césaire, Jean Price-Mars (seen in the Jonkunnu essay), W. E. B. Du Bois and Frantz Fanon, and with an appreciation of the insights brought by the New Studies of the Sixties (including that of Black redemptive co-humanist thought, feminism), Wynter's work has sought, from its origin, to find a comprehensive explanatory system able to integrate these knowledges, ones born of struggle.

This volume makes an important contribution to restoring to view an essential strand in the 500-year emergent thought generated from the slave/ex-slave archipelago of the Caribbean and the Americas - thought important to what our increasingly integrated world-system, the first such in human history.

This seminal collection of essays explores a range of subjects, including centrally (as in the title essay) a critique of literary criticisms' approach to the new range of fiction which had exploded in the wake of the anti-colonial struggles in the British Caribbean. This as writers grappled with creating an autonomous sense of self to replace their previously mimetically accepted secondary human status as native colonial subjects and cheap "native" labor. It is therefore the above imperative which - when taken together with the major emphasis placed on the post-independence destitute plight of the category of the Rastafarian Bob Marley's shanty-town jobless underclass (today's globalized "planet of the slums") - which identifies the emancipatory project struggled for in these essays. A project which, although profoundly influenced by Marxian thought, seeks to invert its base/superstructure principle of material-economic causality in order to put forward, instead, from the perspective of the ultimate underside slave/colonial experiences of the post-1492 Caribbean, a new humanism; one now made, in the terms of the Caribbean Negritude poet Aime Césaire, "to the measure of the world."

This is an awesome educational book. Gives perspectives on YL and on many other sources in the field of E.O.'s as well as educates you on Essential Oils. Be prepared it is very educational, meaning it can get a little snoozish. But it is a Chemistry book which anyone and everyone can understand. If you aren't that interested in all the bits and pieces of this science and field maybe not the book for you. I however love it, even if I have to have coffee while reading some portions :) A great educational tool for anyone working in the field, going into the field, or wanting to educate themselves for their own personal health reasons. It is a awesome find. I was so happy to receive it for the Amazon price!

Chemistry was my primary passion for 14 years of my life, including conducting graduate research in neurochemistry, but I almost didn't buy this book because of one of the reviewers saying that it was "replete with errors".But the book has so many great reviews I decided to take a chance on it, even though I already own a large collection of excellent aromatherapy books. Boy am I glad I did!The book is superb!The nit-picking reviewer who criticized it really doesn't know that they're talking about, the vast majority of the content is rock-solid.And the book is entertaining, informative, and has superb and extensive tables of detailed information that one can't find anywhere else.Priceless.

Written by a chemistry teacher who became an expert on essential oils, I have read through this book three or four times. The use of these oils extends far far beyond something that smell good, and can be used to revitalize and help heal the body. Makes sense, since that's what they do in plants, and they also work incredible well in us humans, if we know how to use them. Very highly recommended book for understanding how these oils actually work in our own bodies.
